portlandtweed-forblog

This is Portland Tweed.  A nice light worsted tweed yarn with the addition of alpaca and viscose for softness.  Use it as a substitute for those itchy tweed yarns!

In other news, we had some Tilli Tomas yarn on sale last week, it flew out the door.  Thanks for your purchases and enjoy the discounted Tilli, a rare thing.

I was going through my stash and thinking about knitting up all the samples that we have.. well, the ones I haven’t knitted up yet anyway  ;-) .  I started out with the samples for Spud and Chloe, the Sweater yarn that arrived all looped up on pencils, very cute.  But even cuter is knitting the colors up into a mini-scarf.

It’s amazing how well ALL the colors look good together!

Next up is the Tilli Tomas Symphony-Kid Lace with beads, a super kid mohair blend with a metallic thread and beads.  The photo doesn’t do it justice, AT ALL.  But my little fish wanted to be in the shot, haha.

This sample of garter stitch was knit up on US 4 needles.
Fluffy, soft, and the beads as a nice weight to it.
On US 4 needles it knits up nice and tight for a sweater, or use larger needles for a scarf or shawl.

Coming up next: Habu yarns with the new SWTC Xie yarn, a new ultimate favorite.

SWTC Xie 10/2 bamboo

A brand new lace weight bamboo yarn!
It’s called Xie 10/2 bamboo

These cones of ultra-thin yarn are so cute and so versatile.  Knits as a laceweight with US 1 to US 4 needles (depending on the pattern and desired result) or combine them together with other yarns to use with Skif patterns.

Any way your heart desires, this soft and silky bamboo is awesome.

Here are some photos:

Look at the SHINE!

forblog-xie-ball
you can see in this one that I wound just a small amount from the brown cone (compare the diameter to the yellow cone)

and here you can see the size of the wound Xie compared to a ball of Habu Cotton Gima.

New for April – Loop-d-Loop and more

We received our shipment of the new Loop-d-Loop yarn called Quartz.

I was skeptical when reading about this yarn on paper, but once I touched the yarn and did a test knit I was hooked!

You can really see the linen halo and the metallic strand that is wrapped around the fibers.  Such a great warm-weather yarn, and awesome patterns in the Loop-d-Loop Volume 4 pattern book!

South West Trading Co. Bamboo – BACK IN STOCK

We have a new yarn by Habu Textiles called Kenbo Silk.
A lace weight silk with lots of shine.  5 great shades.

And the new issue of Vogue Knitting will be on the website soon.  Knit kits already available!  Noni patterns coming too.

Happy Spring!

It’s March already?!

Wow, how time flies when you’re having fun.  This new year has been a great one for getting UFO’s finished and for test knitting new yarns.

Although I don’t have photos of some of the test knits, my new favorite yarns are as follows:

Blue Sky Alpacas Melange
alpacacowl

I haven’t had too much time to knit with this yarn until now.  The heathery look of the colors really comes through in the finished knit!

.

Tilli Tomas Beaded Plie
beadedplie

This lace edge was knit with Tilli Tomas Beaded Plie.  A silk yarn with beads throughout, hold up well to wear and looks great in stockinette too!
